Goodbye Saildrone, Hello Per Diem
It wasn’t easy to say goodbye, but it was time for me to move on and build my own startup.
Saildrone is a fantastic company with a great mission. I am confident that the current management, along with the rest of the team, will take Saildrone far. I am excited to see what Saildrone is able to accomplish. Goodbye Saildrone.
Hello Per Diem. My new mission is to support local businesses by providing the platform to build their own “prime” solution in under 2 minutes.
Per Diem came from the fear of waking up to a world filled with warehouses and lacking human connection. Instead of ordering my groceries from one of a handful of chain stores online, I’d rather pick up my own groceries at a local market. I’d prefer to communicate with a person and support a small business owner. I’m tired of communicating with an AI bot when trying to figure out why something is missing from my order.
I want to know the owner of my favorite coffee place and to provide them some amount of security knowing that I am invested in supporting their livelihood. I want to stop by my favorite Argentinian cafe every Sunday and have my delicious empanadas waiting for me.
It is our social and civic responsibility to support local businesses. Between the rise of ecommerce and the pandemic it is even more crucial that we find new ways to ensure that local businesses thrive. The best way to make this happen is by subscribing to their businesses. A subscription model would help reduce anxiety related to overhead and would allow business owners the ability to plan more efficiently. I’m not even talking about the co2 emissions from shipping, etc…
I’m lucky to have a fantastic co-founder who shares a similar vision and passion for building a better world. Today, as a father of 3, there’s nothing more that I would like to do than to make sure my kids live in a better world. In a world that is funky and diverse, and where being a small business owner is a viable option.
